Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, Park Avenue Center Peer Recovery Support Specialists provide excellent customer service in all functional areas of their work which includes regular interaction with clients, Park Avenue Center employees, and the surrounding community. Peer support services are to be provided before, during and after SUD treatment to help individuals connect with resources that support recovery. Peers are individuals who are willing to share their personal recovery experience, and often engage quickly with individuals to offer reassurance, reduce fears, answer questions, support motivation and convey hope. Individuals would be working with clients both at our Counseling Center and in their place of residence in the South Minneapolis area.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource for clients
  • Accompany client to appointments that support recovery
  • Provide education, advocacy, and mentoring through self-disclosure of personal recovery experiences
  • Attend recovery and other support groups with a client
  • Provide assistance to access resources to obtain housing, employment, education, and advocacy services
  • Provide nonclinical recovery support to assist the transition from treatment into the recovery community
  • Maintain positive public relations with referring agencies and businesses in the community
  • Locate appropriate staff members and/or supervisor to respond to client needs when necessary
  • Responsible for light clinical documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Possessing a valid Driver’s License or have the ability to obtain one in a timely manner is preferred
  • Successful completion of a DHS study
  • At the time of hiring, must have a minimum of one year of recovery from substance use disorder
  • Have a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Ability to learn and apply clinical data entry in electronic health record system;
  • Hold a current CPRS credential from a certification body approved by the commissioner that demonstrates skills and training in the domains of ethics and boundaries, advocacy, mentoring and education, and recovery and wellness support
  • Receive ongoing supervision in areas specific to the domains of the recovery peer's role by an alcohol and drug counselor or an individual with a certification approved by the commissioner

This is a full-time position with potential hours available 7 days a week, days and evenings.
